With a new days upon us, in more ways than one, Monday Night RAW had all the makings in a change of landscape. Emanating from Indianapolis, Indiana, The Authority is officially out of power and still some unresolved conflicts coming out of Survivor Series needed to be addressed. Let's take a look.
The Authority/Daniel Bryan Opening Segment:- Stephanie begins the segment, visibly shaken and upset by the fact that The Authority is no longer in power, and Sting of all people is to blame. She gets even more emotional as she wishes everyone a happy Thanksgiving. Triple H takes over and talks about the WWE universe being bullies who are happy to see the strong out of power. After addressing their loss of power, Triple H addresses Sting. He says that he isn't sure why Sting did what he did. Was he trying to make his career relevant again? Who knows, but he wants Sting to know that he is single-handedly responsible for the demise of the WWE. Triple H gives the prediction of WWE lasting maybe 2-3 more weeks and then people will sit on their couches, reflecting on their failures. The Authority is about to leave when Daniel Bryan's music hits to an incredible reaction. The entire crowd is YES'ing in unison as Daniel Bryan gets in The Authorities face, YES'ing as well.
Daniel Bryan is still in the ring back from break and says that it's great to be in the ring. He announces that he has been put in charge of running RAW tonight and he calls out Team Authority. Bryan begins with Seth Rollins and announces a handicap match with Rollins and 2 partners against John Cena and Dolph Ziggler. The WWE universe will vote on his partners. Either A. Luke Harper/Rusev, B. Kane/Mark Henry or....C. Jamie Noble/Joey Mercury.
Bryan gets to Kane and says that tonight, instead of being Corporate Kane, he will be Director of Food and Beverages as Concessions Kane.
Up next is Rusev, who has a choice of either defending his title in a battle royal or reciting the pledge of allegiance.
Luke Harper is next and he will defend his Intercontinental Championship tonight against Dean Ambrose.
Finally, Mark Henry will face a man who is seeking redemption for his loss to Henry at Wrestlemania 29, Ryback, and it is next.
Ryback vs. Mark Henry:- Ryback's music hits as he runs down the ramp and he and Henry begin brawling as they go to commericial. Back from break, Ryback makes very quick work of Henry, hitting a meathook clothesline for the win.
Winner:- Ryback
Backstage, Triple H and Stephanie are leaving and run into Vince McMahon. Stephanie apologizes for letting him down, but he says he isn't angry, just disappointed. He says that he put huge odds against the two of them to show them how rough it gets in the corporate world and they disappointed him. McMahon says he's never been sorry but he is sorry that he has to spend Thanksgiving with the two of them.
Dean Ambrose vs. Luke Harper (c)- Intercontinental Championship:- Very hard hitting action to begin as Harper and Ambrose exchange punches. Harper knocks down Ambrose who ends up drop toeholding Harper and ferociously punching his face. Harper fights off Ambrose temporarily as Ambrose is able to hit Harper with a flying spinning elbow of the second rope and then hit a splash onto Harper to the outside. Back from commericial, Harper has Ambrose in a sleeper hold. Ambrose struggles but is able to get in some offense on Harper but Harper regains control once again. Harper continues the punishment on Ambrose on the outside, throwing Ambrose into the barricade. Ambrose is able to regain his composure however and lands a devastating clothesline of Harper, knocking him silly. Awesome match between these two and the match goes back and until the referee disqualifies Ambrose for bumping into him. The two men continue brawling until Ambrose takes out Harper and then hits a DDT on a steel chair. The fans are chanting "We Want Tables" and Ambrose obliges, getting a ladder and a table. That is when Bray Wyatt attacks Ambrose from behind and hitting sister Abigail on Ambrose. Wyatt proceeds to bury Ambrose underneath a mountain of chairs to end the segment.
Santino Marella makes his return with RAW's guest host, Larry the Cable Guy. A pure comedy segment that gets interrupted by Gold & Stardust.
Gold & Stardust vs. The Miz and Damien MizDow(c)- WWE Tag Team Championship:- Damien MizDow did the majority of the work as Miz got injured early in the match and was being checked out by WWE doctor, Chris Aman. MizDow had Stardust in the figure four until Goldust broke it up. Stardust hits MizDow with a spirngboard but Miz tags himself in and hits Stardust with a Skull-Crushing finale for the win.
Winners:- The Miz and Damien MizDow
Rusev is up next and he and Lana are a loss for words about the dilemma they have been placed in. Rusev says that he will not be brainwashed by this country and refuses to pledge his allegiance. Daniel Bryan appears on the screen and says that he knew something like this would happen and has something else in mind for Rusev. Sgt. Slaugther is out to a nice ovation. Slaughter attempts to force Rusev and Lana into doing the pledge of allegiance but Rusev has enough of it and gets in Slaughters face. Jack Swagger makes the save and takes out Rusev.
Fandango vs. Justin Gabriel:- In a rematch from last night's pre-show contest, Fandango once again defeated Gabriel with relative ease with his leg drop. The match yielded a loud "CM PUNK" chant.
Winner:- Fandango
Big Show comes out to apologize for his actions and tries to justify himself, but the crowd wasn't buying it. Show challenges anybody backstage to do something if they have a problem. This brings out Erick Rowan who Big Show refers to as "the upside down Sheamus." Show tells Rowan to leave but Rowan says that he doesn't like bullies and assaults Big Show.
Brie Bella vs. AJ Lee:- Another short match and Brie Bella picks up the victory after Nikki Bella hangs up AJ's arm on the rope and Brie uses an Oklahoma roll for the win.
Winner:- Brie Bella
After the match, AJ grabs a microphone and tells the Bellas that combined they are not half the woman she is and that it is time someone broke the truth to them. Talent isn't sexually transmitted. Ouch.
Adam Rose and The Bunny vs. Tyson Kidd and Natalya:- Santino Marella and Larry the Cable Guy are doing commentary ringside. Adam Rose ends up on the losing end once again as The Bunny unintentionally costs Rose the match.
Winners:- Tyson Kidd and Natalya
Backstage, Renee Young catches up with Ryback who asks if there any good concession stands around.
A New Day stable will debut next week.
Ryback finds Kane backstage and asks for a bunch of items but Kane offers Ryback and hot dog and throws it at him. Kane and Ryback have a food fight and Ryback squirts Kane with mustard. Ryback tells Kane that he forgot his nuts.
Renee Young has John Cena and Dolph Ziggler backstage and they say the show will be stolen.
John Cena/Dolph Ziggler vs. Seth Rollins & J &J Security:- Daniel Bryan came out after Cena and Ziggler to announce the winners of the text vote to be Seth Rollins tag partners. With a landslide 93% vote, Jamie Noble and Joey Mercury won he vote. Rollins and company get off to a very rough start as Ziggler and Cena took it to them. Noble actually got some offense in one Cena .Ziggler got back in groove with a lot of offense until Rollins begins to dominate Ziggler. Ziggler is able to tag in Cena who goes off and hits a flurry. The end comes when Ziggler and Cena hit their finishers on Noble and Mercury for the win.
Winners:- Dolph Ziggler and John Cena
After the match, Daniel Bryan runs in and throws Rollins back in the ring and he eats a superkick and an AA. A big YES! chant gets going until an i-phone beep goes off. That's right, The Anonymous RAW general manager is back as Michael Cole quotes the GM by saying that the party is over and next week order will be restored.
After such a historic Survivor Series the previous night, RAW failed to deliver and follow up on the large amount of momentum. Despite having one decent wrestling match, the entire show was based on talking. It's just way too much for a wrestling show to feature this much time devoted to promos. For example, the beginning of the show saw the first two segments be long promos and the result was that almost 40 minutes passed before the first wrestling match of the night. Finally, the ending with the anonymous general manager being back is just an absolute momentum killer and a waste of time. Hopefully it gets dropped before it even gets a chance to start
Final Rating:- 5/10
